Newcastle United’s recruitment department continues to evolve following a summer of major change, with Ross Wilson overseeing a new structure as the club places greater emphasis on younger talent, data analysis and a sustainable player-trading model.
On Monday, The i Paper’s Mark Douglas reported that Andy Howe, the nephew of former Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe, has left his role as senior football executive to pursue new opportunities.
Howe’s departure was described as amicable, with the 48-year-old
leaving with the club’s best wishes after five years on Tyneside. Andy remained at Newcastle after his uncle stepped down in July and continued to play an influential role during the early stages of a transformative summer transfer window under new head coach Matthias Jaissle.
He originally joined as head of first-team technical scouting before becoming assistant head of first-team recruitment and was promoted again earlier this year.
The i Paper added that Howe was highly rated by figures within Newcastle’s hierarchy and had become an important part of the club’s recruitment operation. Andy played a significant role during the turbulent summer of 2025, when Alexander Isak eventually forced through a move to Liverpool.
Howe was also credited with playing a major part in Newcastle’s signing of Sandro Tonali and recommending Malick Thiaw, who subsequently joined the club and has since taken on additional responsibility within the squad.
Most importantly, Andy’s exit also represents the final organizational link to Eddie Howe’s tenure at St James’ Park. Andy Howe continued working for Newcastle for two months after Jaissle replaced his uncle, but his departure was characterized as a natural point to pursue a new challenge.
