Jedd Fisch era is hitting its stride
Washington had to deal with a lot of turnover during
Fisch’s first season with the program in ‘24, which was to be expected after the departure of Kalen DeBoer to Alabama and key playmakers on the National Championship runner-up team heading to the NFL like QB Michael Penix Jr. and WR Rome Odunze. Washington went 5-7 last year but are already up to that win total’ in ‘25 at 5-1. Fisch, who was Michigan’s quarterbacks and wide receivers coach in 2015-16, has had two other head coaching stints, going 1-1 in an interim capacity at UCLA and 16-21 at Arizona. Fisch went 1-11 his first season at Arizona, 5-7 in his second, and then 10-3 in year N0. 3, which helped him land the job at Washington.
Demond Williams Jr. is a dawg
Williams Jr. might be the best quarterback under six-feet tall in college football. The 5-foot-11 sophomore has thrown for 10 touchdowns, just one interception, along with 1,628 passing yards and a 74.1 completion percentage. Williams Jr. ranks No. 5 in Total QBR at 86.1. As good of a passer Williams Jr. is, he’s equally dangerous as a runner, rushing for 382 yards this year with four rushing scores.
A good running back
5-foot-9 Jonah Coleman has been getting things done this season, leading the nation with 11 rushing touchdowns and No. 30 in rushing yards with 518. As good as Coleman’s numbers are, his production has slipped in Big Ten play, averaging just 3.8 yards per game with two rushing scores.
A bonafide WR1
6-foot-4 Denzel Boston leads the team with 30 receptions for 444 yards with six touchdowns. The next closest wideout in touchdowns has just two.
Defensive standouts
- Safety Alex McLaughlin is tied at No. 24 in solo tackles with 29 and is tied at No. 21 with two interceptions.
- Cornerback Ephesians Prysock is tied at No. 29 in passes defended with five.
- Safety Makell Esteen is tied at No. 21 with two interceptions.
- Edge rusher Jacob Lane leads the team with 2.5 sacks.
A steady kicker
Senior kicker Grady Gross is having a very good year thus far, going 6-of-7. Only one of those kicks were over 40 yards, a 51-yard made field goal. Gross has converted every extra point in his career, going a perfect 124-of-124 through three years.
