A lot of fans and wrestlers were surprised earlier this year when R-Truth suddenly announced his exit from WWE after the company didn’t renew his contract. The negative reaction to WWE’s decision was immediate
and swift, which included very loud “We want Truth!” chants from live audiences on WWE programming. Those same people were thrilled when WWE responded by bringing Truth back less than one week later.
He cut his hair on Raw and used the name Ron Killings for his return, playing a much more serious character to continue his feud with heel John Cena. However, as soon as Cena turned babyface, the old R-Truth came back too, and now he’s back doing the comedy shtick that he’s always been known for in WWE.
Some fans were happy about Truth’s return to comedy, but others were disappointed to see his TV time reduced and the serious Ron Killings persona go away. In a new interview with New York Post Sports, Truth said it was good to play a more serious character for a little while, but what the fans really wanted to see all along was his return to comedy.
“It felt good. I think everybody has that part of them inside of them they want to let go and just come back with purpose, and come back with selfish purposes. It felt exhilarating.
But when you go back to it, that’s not, those people want to see R-Truth. The guy that made chicken salad out of shit, you know what I’m saying? They want to see that guy that can take your emotions and make you feel. And the generational connection he had with my mom, my dad, my grandfather, my niece, my nephew, my uncle. When I was down and out…you made me believe. You made me feel. That’s who they missed. I think everybody has that Ron Killings that [comes] out…we all got that inside of us.”
Is this the version of R-Truth you wanted to see back in WWE after they let him go, or do you prefer the more serious Ron Killings gimmick? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
