Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany wants players who excel at both ends of the pitch — even precocious attacking talents like Lennart Karl.
The manager points to veteran Harry Kane as a the model
to follow.
“The best example for me is when Harry Kane does the defensive work. I expect a 17-year-old to do it with a smile. He has the physical ability to help defend and bring a lot of energy directly to the attack,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Attacking players often lose energy defensively when they then have to attack again. Everyone on our team can do that, which I’m happy about. Lenny does it like the others; we’ll see who plays tomorrow. Hopefully nobody spent a lot of time with (Dayot Upamecano) in the last 24 hours.”
Karl could be a candidate to sit out against FC Augsburg after a middling performance against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League earlier this week. If the youngster wants to secure more time, the head coach might have just given him a hint on how to do it.
