In a big surprise, word got out today that The New Day, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, are departing WWE. The duo have been with the company dating back to 2006 and 2010, and working together as a group dating all the way back to 2014. It sure felt like they would be WWE for life.
According to Bryan Alvarez, the two were asked to restructure their current contracts — they were not up yet, to be clear — “to TKO deals, they didn’t like the deals, so they were then granted their release.” Both will
now be under 90-day non-compete deals, meaning they can’t show up for another company until those 90 days are up.
Still, wrestlers from AEW already have their eyes on the new free agents.
MJF, from his Instagram stories:
FTR:
Woods and Kingston are widely respected in the industry, and there are plenty of interesting matches that await them should they decide to sign with Tony Khan’s outfit, including reigniting their rivalry with FTR and finally getting that dream match against The Young Bucks.
Stay tuned.
