Andreas Christensen is heading into the final year of his contract at Barcelona but, unlike Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia who are in the same situation, is not expected to renew with the Catalan giants.
Deco has reportedly decided not to offer the Dane a new contract, meaning that as things stand he will be able to walk away on a free transfer.
However, a new report from Mundo Deportivo claims that Christensen would very much like to stay. He is settled with his family in the city and would be happy
to continue.
Christensen is also said to be feeling “100%” again after a tough time with injuries last season and is ready to try and cement his place in the team.
And fitness will surely be key to the 29-year-old’s bid to stay at Barca. He’s shown great quality when he has played for the Catalans, but the amount of time he has spent on the sidelines mean question marks remain.
Much may also depend on Barca’s transfer activity and financial situation. The club has already lost Inigo Martinez, while the rumor mill is already getting excited about Ronald Araujo’s future again.
If Christensen can stay fit and shine in the coming campaign, then he may well be able to change Deco’s mind about a contract extension at Barcelona.
But what do you think? Should Barca be looking to extend Christensen? Or will next summer be a good time to wave goodbye? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
