Green Bay Packers starting Will linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was carted off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for what appears to be a non-contact ankle injury. Cooper dropped to the ground awkwardly on a third-down blitz versus the Buccaneers, grabbed his ankle and needed assistance to leave the field. You can find the video of the play linked below.
Cooper’s replacement at the position has been Isaiah McDuffie, who backs up both the Mike (Zaire Franklin) and Will
(Cooper) positions on defense. McDuffie is also a core special teamer who is a year-long team captain on that unit. If there were ever another injury at the position, it’s likely that Ty’Ron Hopper would take over the Will position with the remaining healthy linebacker (be it Franklin or McDuffie) playing the Mike.
So far, the Packers haven’t made an announcement about Cooper’s injury. We’ll keep you updated when any new information drops on his status. Green Bay also dealt with two other injuries on Sunday, as running back Chris Brooks and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt were both banged up in Tampa.
