Everton today announced that goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has signed a new four-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2029.
The 31-year-old continues to be a key player for the Blues having made 326 appearances so far since his British-record move for a goalkeeper when he came over from Sunderland in the summer of 2017. Pickford continues to be a mainstay for the England national team as well with all 80 caps coming while with Everton. The stopper recently set a new record of nine consecutive
clean sheets for the Three Lions and has not conceded at international level for over a year now.
Speaking to evertontv after signing his new deal, Pickford spoke about his commitment to the cause.
“I’m delighted. Delighted to get it done – it’s an extra two years, so four years in total. I’m over the moon and it gives me the opportunity to build a legacy for myself here, move forward and build this Club to where we want to be.
“Everton is a really special club to me. Coming from Sunderland as a young lad and growing into a man here, it’s been a special time for me and my family.
“I think everyone’s seen the changes and how I’ve developed over time, but I’m still that lad who loves to keep the ball out of the net. It’s been Everton who have helped me develop and a lot of hard work’s been put in as well.
“It’s always felt like a natural fit for me, with the fans and the passion – it’s second to none and something I thrive off.
“It’s been a mega journey so far.”
Pickford has played a crucial role for the Toffees in his eight years at the club, including all three hotly-contested relegation battles when his saves kept Everton in the Premier League.
While no particulars from the contract were revealed, it will be interesting to know if he will be remaining at the same wages as the club’s highest-paid permanent player at £125,000 per week. Jack Grealish is making about £225,000 per week on loan at the Blues with Manchester City paying the remaining quarter of his salary.
Everton still have a number of key players whose contracts are all up at the end of this season. With Tarkowski’s and Pickford’s immediate futures sorted, Paddy Boyland in The Athletic writes that the club will now turn their focus to James Garner and Vitaliy Mykolenko. Idrissa Gana Gueye’s deal also expires this term with an option for a one-year extension which will likely be triggered given how well he’s still playing, while Coleman should be retiring when his contract ends next summer.
