The Kentucky Wildcats will be looking for a new tight ends Coach as Will Stein looks to build his first coaching staff.
Derek Shay, who served as the tight ends coach this past season under Mark Stoops, is joining Texas A&M, according to Jaxson Callaway of On3.
Shay was looked at as someone who could’ve stayed in Lexington, but he will be on another SEC sideline in 2026.
The Aggies will be in search of another offensive coordinator as Collin Klein heads to Kansas State. The role that Shay landed at A&M
is not exactly specified yet, but it has been confirmed that he is joining Mike Elko’s staff in College Station.
Shay just wrapped up his first year as the Wildcats’ tight ends coach. Before getting that position, he spent 16 months as the Wildcats’ senior offensive analyst and run game specialist.
UT San Antonio offensive coordinator Justin Burke has been a name to watch for the open tight ends position after originally being a candidate for the offensive coordinator position. Burke played football at Lexington Catholic and could fill the role on Stein’s staff.
It’s unclear if Burke is the only candidate to become Kentucky’s next tight ends coach.
