The Steelers had a familiar visitor this weekend: Former head coach and Super Bowl XL champion Bill Cowher made a stop in the ’Burgh Friday and Saturday on his way to Buffalo for CBS’ “The NFL Today” pregame
show today.
This weekend is the Steelers’ 2005 Super Bowl team reunion game against the Colts, and although Cowher won’t be on the field, he’s still working to leave his imprint.
Cowher joined the Pat McAfee Show on Friday to talk about the big visit.
“We are playing the Indianapolis Colts this week as you know,” he said. “It’s the reunion of the 2005 Super Bowl team, so I’m going back there this afternoon. I’ll be with the boys tonight and I’m gonna give them a talk tomorrow.”
I’d imagine Cowher is privy to what’s happening in Pittsburgh on the defensive side of the ball. They currently rank dead last in pass defense, and third to last in overall team defense, just ahead of the Bengals and Cowboys.
The Steelers could certainly use a stern talking to from the former coach of 15 seasons, whose defense was a cornerstone of the team’s success during his tenure.
It’s a far cry from those days, but at this point they should try to turn over every stone imaginable. Just maybe the man with the infamous chin will help turn their season around.
Cowher also said that Ben Roethlisberger would be picking him up and he hoped to take a picture with Big Ben, Aaron Rodgers, and Mike Tomlin.
Easy enough.
