Liverpool have been devastated by injuries this season. Something that made their 1-1 draw to Chelsea Women a month ago even more surprising given the extreme lack of options that Gareth Taylor has at hand
in challenges like a Blues side in title defence mode.
Often criticised for conservative tactics, Sonia Bompastor took a great risk in deploying five attackers on the pitch against the Reds at their turf. It shortly proved to be the correct choice as Liverpool were completely overwhelmed by our offence.
Not long after that we got a brace from Sam Kerr, with loads of space to shoot at goal and get us a 2-0 lead. Wieke Kaptein and Aggie Beever-Jones soon followed suit, with Chelsea scoring four goals in the first 32 minutes of play.
All was very smooth heading into the second half and it got even better as Johanna Rytting Kaneryd hit a nice strike to add a fifth for us. Jenna Clark’s goal for the hosts did spoil the score a bit as we’d no longer have a Livia Peng clean sheet. But we did get four goals as payback, including a rare Millie Bright strike with the captain practically playing as centre-forward.
Carefree!
- Lexi Potter gets her first ever Chelsea start as a pro!
- Two proper strikes from Sam Kerr as she gets herself back in (usual) rhythm.
- And a second half hat-trick for Johanna Rytting Kaneryd. What a day!
- Next up: West Ham at home in the Women’s Super League.
- KTBFFH!
