It appears the end is finally here for the Mitch Barnhart era, as the UK athletics director is set to retire.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke the news first on Tuesday that Barnhart’s retirement announcement is expected to come in the “near future.”
Barnhart has been UK’s AD for 24 years now, overseeing much success throughout his department, including new levels of success for the school in baseball, softball, volleyball, and women’s basketball before he arrived. In 2019, he was named the Division I Athletics
Director of the Year by Sports Business Journal.
