On Wednesday night (May 20), Facebook page “Orange County Mugshots” and RecentlyBooked.com posted that Marcel Barthel had been arrested that afternoon in Orange County, Florida on a battery charge. Orlando is in Orange County, and is the site of the WWE Performance Center. The RecentlyBooked site noted bond was set at $1,000 for the 35-year-old Barthel, who wrestles as Ludwig Kaiser and more recently the non-Chad Gable El Grande Americano in WWE and AAA.
PWInsider soon confirmed that Kaiser was released
after making bail. At that point, online speculation was leading to rumors about Kaiser’s arrest and the charge against him, which prompted Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp to post:
The arrest is accurate. We’re told the battery charge was against a male after an altercation. Not a domestic situation as some are speculating
While the information we have so far doesn’t necessarily make whatever led to the arrest sound like a fireable offense, but that’s me doing the speculating now. Multiple outlets have asked WWE for comment, and outlets like TMZ will likely have more of the story by morning.
It is conceivable that the arrest alone could lead to issues with Kaiser making it to Monterrey, Mexico next weekend for his big mask vs. mask main event against Gable’s Grande Americano at AAA Lucha Libre’s Noche de los Grandes on Saturday, May 30. That’s more of that darn speculating again, though.
More as we have it, Cagesider.
