Speaking to Ryan D’Agostino for Esquire, WWE and Hollywood superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently opened up about a serious health matter he dealt with recently.
Johnson said he felt a lump in one of his testicles while showering. The lump was painful to the touch, but he decided not to tell his wife Laura Hashian about it. Rock checked with a doctor who told him it was probably epididymitis, an inflammation of a tube at the back of the testicle that stores sperm, but that needed to be checked for
cancer. He was then preoccupied worrying about it throughout a day of press and promotion until he was able to get an ultrasound the next morning.
“I didn’t even tell Lauren. I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about.
“By the way: I’m fine. But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful.
“So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches.”
Oddly enough, Rock is the second wrestler/actor to speak on how important it is for men to have all the bumps, lumps, and growths that show up on our bodies around age 50 (this 53-year-old writer speaks from experience) checked. Earlier this week, Vinnie Vegas’ WCW partner and Sabretooth and Michael Myers actor Tyler Mane shared that he’s be diagnosed with breast cancer at 59.
Yep. I have breast cancer. And yep, it’s super rare. Only 1% of breast cancers are men.
I’ll be honest, my first reaction was to keep it secret. I mean it’s kind of embarrassing. But then I found out that men are more likely to be diagnosed in advance stages BECAUSE it’s not talked about and not looked for. In fact, my doctors all dismissed it and it was only because my wife pushed me to get the lump removed that I got in early.
So let’s start talking about it! 1 in 755 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and if caught early, it’s VERY treatable. Time to answer the Wake Up Call! Like, Save, Share, Comment let’s spread the word!
