That one season without Robert Lewandowski and before Harry Kane was a tough one for Bayern Munich, wasn’t it?
In 2022/23, Julian Nagelsmann’s side found their goals, but not enough, and they had to work for it. The coach did not even last the full year. But then Bayern went out and got Harry Kane, and the rest is…history. This season, Kane and Lewandowski are the only two players in Europe’s top five leagues with over 1.00 xG per 90, according to WhoScored:

Kane has 28 league goals and 5 assists this season after his brace and MOTM performance in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt — showing he’s not merely getting into good positions but converting his chances, too. Lewandowski, his Bayern predecessor, has 10 goals from 19 games while only starting about half the time, and Lewa’s Barça teammate Torres has 12 with just one assist.
Kane, meanwhile, is practically a fixture in Vincent Kompany’s XI and doing it beyond the stat sheet — tracking back, dropping team, sliding into tackles and launching unbelievably pin-point passes from deep. That he’s doing all of that while still being a dominant goal-producing machine is a testament to the special season he, and Bayern, are enjoying.
Neither seems possible without the other. Truly, this has been a match made in heaven, and Bayern and Kane are reaping the rewards. You can see why a Barcelona presidential candidate would say: “What we’re missing is a striker” — even with Lewa and Torres on this list — and hopefully, Kane himself is laughing that off as much as Bayern is.
