While the New Orleans Saints opened the 2026 preseason with a 24-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, there were plenty of positive takeaways from the game.
This week’s breakout player capitalized on his opportunity after already making noise throughout training camp: CB Jayden Price.
The 26-year-old defensive back posted one tackle, one quarterback hurry, a pass breakup and an interception while not allowing a single reception on three targets. Price only played 21 total snaps, all of which came in the
slot. He earned a team-high 95.3 overall defensive grade from Pro Football Focus for his performance, along with a 94.6 coverage grade.
Price has already put together a strong training camp to this point, and he’s really starting to make a name for himself as a potential option in the slot role within Brandon Staley’s defense.
While that role is currently being occupied by Jonas Sanker, an injury in the secondary could force Sanker to move back to safety, potentially opening the door for Price to step in as a seamless replacement while still producing at a high level.
It will be interesting to see if Price can build off this momentum throughout the rest of the preseason, but as of now, it looks like he is well on his way to earning a spot on the Saints’ initial 53-man roster.
