Throughout an uneven (at best) start to the season, I’ve been able to see a way forward to the Colts playing well and having a good season. If it went well enough to save some jobs and brighten the outlook among fans, that would be great, but mostly it is because I honestly felt that the pieces were in place for success. I’ve tried to wish and squint the stink off of this team, but whatever settles to the bottom when cream rises to the top, is what we are, six games through the season.
I’ve argued
or at least offered a different opinion for those wanting to “burn it down”, for long enough. Fire everyone? Fine. Trade away assets for future considerations? Why not? Hand AR the keys? Not sure what he would be driving, but sure, go for it. Absolutely nothing would surprise me as far as a press conference would look in the aftermath of today’s game. Seriously, how could it get worse?
I’m not seeing anything that would suggest that this team, as assembled, can compete with the rest of the NFL. They might win a game here and there, because “Any given Sunday”, but I would find it hard to believe that we would be favored in any game left on the schedule, sans Miami. If Steichen is allowed another press conference, I don’t want to watch. “We/I need to be better” should cause each reporter to just turn off the recording devices and walk out.
I’d like to think that the team wanted to win, at least as much as I do, but I don’t see much evidence of it. I honestly think that the talent level among all 32 teams in not separated by that much (aside from QB) and the difference in results depends on coaching, effort, and luck. We are big fat 0 – 3 in those three.
I’ll cool off and write something more constructive after the butt hurt has subsided, but this is my effort after watching the effort I witnessed today.
