The joint press release today (March 17) from new partners WWE and Front Office Sports is so filled with business-speak it’s hard to determine exactly what the two companies will be doing together. We suspect that may be intentional, because what it sounds like they’re doing doesn’t sound great if you’re a fan of facts and the public’s access to them.
A more favorable read would be that WWE is giving exclusive access to Front Office Sports in order to do more of what shows like WWE UnReal have done
to illuminate the company’s behind-the-scenes process and give fans another way to get to know the people who make their favorite shows. Even that creates a favored news organization that would seem more likely to portray WWE in a favorable light when controversies arise.
As the press release mentions, Front Office has a similar deal with the National Football League. The announcement of the NFL partnership was presented the same way as WWE’s. A quick search of Front Office’s coverage of the league comes up with coverage that doesn’t look much different from ESPN… another “news organization” with which the NFL has a “content development” arrangement.
We’ll see how things change as this new relationship between WWE and Front Office Sports develops. One thing we’re confident of: you won’t see another scoop from Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston and Post Wrestling’s Brandon Thurston at Front Office, certainly not like when Front Office published their 2024 report that WWE president Nick Khan and then-COO Brad Blum were named as key figures in Janel Grant’s sex-trafficking lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE.
Here’s that presser:
