The New England Patriots will go down to 53 without Jeremiah Pharms Jr.
The organization has waived the well-traveled defensive tackle ahead of Sunday’s NFL roster deadline, per a report from the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed.
Pharms, 29, stands 31 games and a handful of starts into his stay at Gillette Stadium. After going undrafted in 2020 and making stops with the Champions Indoor Football League’s Wichita Force and USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers, the 6-foot-2, 300-pound defensive lineman entered the NFL
ranks ahead of training camp in 2022.
Across 594 snaps on defense and 128 snaps on special teams since then with the Patriots, he has tallied 45 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery.
A former linebacker by way of Sacramento City College, San Joaquin Delta College and Friends University, Pharms finished the Super Bowl LX run on New England’s practice squad after multiple tours on the active roster.
He was retained by the reigning AFC champions on a futures contract in February and moves forward as a top candidate for the initial practice squad.
The Patriots entered Sunday with an active roster of 73. By 6 p.m. ET, clubs around the league will stand at 53.
