Newcastle United remain subject to transfer speculation following Alexander Isak’s departure to Liverpool last summer, a move that reshaped outside perceptions of the club’s ability to hold onto their star players.
“Ever since Alexander Isak downed tools and forced his departure to Liverpool last summer, there has been a steady flow of stories speculating which player will be next to leave Newcastle United,” The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards wrote. “As a result, the perception in football is that Newcastle are
now a selling club and their prized assets can be picked off like low-hanging fruit.”
Among the players assessed is academy product Lewis Miley, who Edwards lists as being linked with Crystal Palace. Unlike several teammates, however, Miley’s “likely asking price” is described as “Not for sale.”
Edwards explained that there were concerns last summer about Miley’s game time, with some close to the player believing he might need to leave to secure regular first-team football.
That situation has obviously changed since then, with Miley becoming a hella promising player for the future—and the present.
“Those concerns have disappeared, with Miley excelling in a new right-back role as well as impressing in his preferred midfield position,” Edwards wrote.
The 19-year-old is viewed internally as central to the club’s long-term plans. Edwards stated that Miley “has the potential to become one of the best midfield players in the country and a future Newcastle captain.”
Edwards concluded: “As a Geordie who came through the academy, he is – at this stage of his career – as close to unsellable as you can get.”
