The Fermín López soap opera has come to an end as the 22-year-old midfielder has informed Barcelona he has no interest in accepting Chelsea’s approach and will stay at the club this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.
News of Chelsea’s interest dropped a week ago and there was serious doubt about Fermín’s continuity with the promise of a protagonist role in Enzo Maresca’s system and a major salary increase.
Barça had zero interest in selling from the beginning and set a very high price tag of €90
million, one that Chelsea never came close to meeting as their only official offer submitted on Saturday was of €40 million.
Fermín did seriously consider Chelsea’s offer for a couple of days and even met with sporting director Deco to discuss his situation, but Barça remained optimistic throughout the process that López would never change his stance and would want to stay.
Now we have a happy ending to this story, and Fermín will be a Barça player when the Blaugrana meet Chelsea in the Champions League in a few months.
