One week ago, AEW Redemption had one official match. After Dynamite and Collision this week, the card is up to eight bouts.
The updated lineup for Redemption on Sunday, July 26 from Montreal, Quebec Canada includes:
- AEW World Championship: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Kevin Knight
- AEW Women’s World Championship: Thekla (c) vs. Willow Nightingale
- AEW World Tag Team Championship: Adam Copeland & Christian Cage (c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli & PAC
- AEW International Championship: Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Bandido
- AEW National Championship: Mark Davis (c) vs. Andrade El Idolo
- TBS Championship: Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Maya World
- Young Bucks vs. Jon Moxley & Will Ospreay
- Chris Jericho & Tommaso Ciampa in No Holds Barred
Omega granted Knight the world title bout, because, frankly, the Jet asked for it. Knight hoped Omega would
honor the shot promised from MJF. Omega did not honor that previous agreement, but he gave Knight the match anyway. That’s not a very compelling storyline, because this is filler until Omega defends the title against Will Ospreay at All In.
Willow won the Casino Gauntlet to earn her shot at the women’s world title held by Thekla. Cope & Cage are tired of the beatings from the Death Riders, so they are going on the offensive to call out Claudio and PAC. Fletcher was annoyed by Bandido, so international title match! Andrade feels spurned by the Callis Family, and he wants to do them harm by taking one of the championships. After beating Jake Doyle, Don Callis made sure El Idolo will go through the grinder known as Dunkzilla.
Shida retained the TBS Championship over Queen Aminata by cheating with her feet on the ropes for leverage on a roll-up. Afterward, Shida treated Aminata like a piñata with her kendo stick. Maya World ran out for the save. That was enough for AEW to make a title match at the PPV.
The Young Bucks are eyeing the tag titles held by C&C. They want to prove themselves as the best team in AEW, so they called out Moxley & Ospreay. The Bucks also want to expose Ospreay as a villain, so Kenny Omega will see not to trust that man heading in to All In.
Ciampa defeated Jericho through unsavory means in their match at Beach Break. Violence escalated afterward, so Jericho requested the rematch as the Painmaker. Ciampa upped the ante for No Holds Barred.
That’s where AEW stands heading into Redemption. Does this card feel like a speed bump to All In? Yes. Do I believe the PPV matches will rock hard? Hell, yes. AEW always delivers in that regard.
