Self Made Pro reported last week that Bron Breakker was frustrated with his creative direction, and that he “had conversations” with people in WWE about “being put in another situation creatively.”
This week, Season 3 of WWE Unreal premiered on Netflix, where fans learned Breakker had been considered to win the 2026 Royal Rumble until Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque decided otherwise.
My B.S. senses are tingling.
To be clear, I’m not dismissing Self Made Pro’s report. But it wouldn’t surprise this
old skeptic if someone in WWE intentionally leaked that initial story to set up what was coming on WWE Unreal.
Start with what fans saw at the Royal Rumble. Breakker entered at No. 2, was attacked by a masked man believed to be Seth Rollins, then was immediately eliminated by Oba Femi.
We’re supposed to believe that Breakker went from being considered to win the Rumble to being the first man out?
C’mon, now.
When WWE’s writers pitched Breakker as the winner, Levesque pushed back, saying fans would see it as “shoving him down” their throats.
More than anything, this feels like WWE working the audience. By claiming they’re holding Breakker back because fans might reject him, they invite the exact response they want: “No, we won’t. Give us Breakker.”
And then there’s Seth Rollins.
Anyone watching WWE since WrestleMania 41 in 2025 could reasonably forecast that the main event for this year’s WrestleMania was likely Roman Reigns against Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship.
You know, the same match that’s about to headline SummerSlam Sunday on August 2.
Also on this season of Unreal, Rollins openly wondered if he had missed his chance to properly headline WrestleMania after getting injured last October.
“I do feel like this was probably the year for it,” Rollins said.
After Rollins relinquished the World Heavyweight Championship, CM Punk stepped in, won the vacant title, and defended it against Reigns at WrestleMania 42. Whatever consideration Breakker received was never likely to go far because the destination appeared to be Reigns. Rollins’ injury changed the opponent, not the plan.
Had Rollins stayed healthy, he likely would have lost the title to Reigns at WrestleMania. The breakup of The Vision, with Breakker spearing Rollins, probably would have happened in the spring or early summer instead of last fall, when WWE fast-tracked the angle to write Rollins off television after his injury.
In reality, Breakker is right where he’s supposed to be at this time, which is a strong spot. He’s a champion, albeit in the tag division. To a general audience, though, he looks important because he’s got gold around his waist.
Just like WWE is slow-cooking stars such as Femi and Trick Williams, it’s likely doing the same with Breakker, with all three seemingly headed for a breakout year in 2027.
Whatever WWE is pushing, whether through the dirt sheets or on Netflix, it smells like a work to me.
Still, I appreciate the hustle.
