Luis Díaz has made an instant impact since arriving at Bayern Munich. But the former Liverpool ace is still quick to credit his teammates with what has been a season of sensational success for the Bavarians.
Prior to Bayern’s Champions League quarterfinals first leg match against Real Madrid, Díaz gave a nearly prophetic quote about opposite winger Michael Olise.
“Just like Harry [Kane], Michael has a knack for finishing. All he needs is one shot. That’s enough for him,” Díaz said in comments captured
by ESPN Colombia (via @iMiaSanMia). “And as a person, he’s in his own world. He’s calm, he doesn’t fight with anyone. Sometimes he argues, that’s normal, but he’s always detached from everything that might be happening around him. He knows what he’s doing. When the moment comes, it’s easy for him.
“I learned a lot from Michael and Harry. Having that composure, that mentality — we always know that the goal will come. We all play for each other.”
Why nearly prophetic? Olise was a dominant force in the match — Bayern’s top difference-maker across the front line. But it was Díaz himself, ever the humble man, who took one his chance when it came, slotting home after a brilliant run into the box to score the opening goal.
Taking every opportunity he gets to lift up his teammates instead of basking in the spotlight himself is class, and shows why this Bayern team fights so hard for one another.
