After the whirlwind of controversy before and during the most recent World Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino decided to continue his streak and push out some more horrendous executive decisions. All of Europe responded appropriately, as did the rest of the world, and his plans were foiled. However, the question of his candidacy still remains, and that is another hot topic the world is debating.
Speaking in an interview, captured by @iMiaSanMia, Bayern Munich head coach decided to remain diplomatic
when asked about this issue specifically.
“I definitely have a strong opinion. But since pre-season started, that’s not been my focus. I don’t have time to read newspapers,” Kompany stated. “For now it’s not my concern, but as long as there’s a lot of talk and discussion, that means something is happening. I don’t just want to voice an opinion. I want to study the case more before saying something.”
In some ways, it is probably for the best that the Bayern Munich coach stays focused on club matters, and does not get himself in trouble with the media or with the clubs front office, although they would most likely agree with the “strong opinion” that he has. However, with cases like Infantino and his handling of world football, this author thinks that at certain times, it should very much be okay to speak out against it. Kompany, managing one of the world’s biggest football clubs, has a massive platform and should use it. The footballing world has practically in its entirety turned its back against Infantino’s management of FIFA, but what remains are the corporations and national football federations that benefit from his policies. Figureheads like Kompany are vital in this kind of fight, especially after the DfB expressed its opinion on the matter already.
