The Golden State Warriors did not do much to revamp the roster this offseason, but head coach Steve Kerr has spent the summer emphasizing a shift in the team’s approach mentally and tactically. Kerr’s top assistants were replaced and Frank Vogel joined the staff to lead the team’s defensive scheme. On the other side of the ball, Kerr has been emphasizing integrating some new approaches to offense. Guard De’Anthony Melton talked at length to reporters about the changes.
Melton explained how the team’s new gameplan shifts the team’s emphasis away from split actions, which have been the Dubs calling card under Kerr. Of course, split actions are still going to be a key component of Golden State’s offense, but Melton expects them to be less frequent as the initial setup. Melton also reiterated Kerr’s comments at the end of the preseason that the team has not yet found its complete footing with the new scheme. We’ll see if they are able to find a rhythm early in the season.
