It continues to be an offseason with plenty of roster turnover for both the Syracuse Orange men’s and women’s basketball teams. Three players announced over the weekend that they are heading to the portal.
Naithan George, the starting point guard for Syracuse men’s basketball last year, will be entering the transfer portal. 247Sports was the first to report.
In 32 games (all as a starter), George averaged 10.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.5 steals in 32.1 minutes per game in his junior
year with the Orange. He had initially transferred to Syracuse after two seasons with Georgia Tech.
George is now the fourth player from the 2025-26 roster to enter the portal, joining forward Tyler Betsey, wing Aaron Womack, and center Tiefeng Diawara.
Switching to the Syracuse women’s team, Shy Hawkins and Camdyn Nelson announced on social media that she is opting to head to the portal after two seasons with the program.
Hawkins averaged 4.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 13.7 minutes per game during her time with Syracuse. This past year, Hawkins played a decent role for the Orange, suiting up in 32 games and starting in 17 of them.
She finished the 2025-26 season with 5.4 and 2.2 rebounds in 15.9 minutes per contest. The former four-star wing announced her commitment to the Orange as a recruit in October 2023.
Camdyn Nelson was a four-star recruit in the 2025 class. The 5’8 point guard from Connecticut appeared in 19 games, making three starts early in the season. Nelson averaged just over 9 minutes a game with 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.
Hawkins is the second forward from last year’s Orange while Nelson is the third guard and they become the fourth and fifth players to enter the portal, joining Justus Fitzgerald, Sophie Burrows, and Maddie Potts.
The transfer portal officially opens up on Tuesday. We’ll keep you posted on which players will be joining the men’s and women’s teams in the coming days.
