The Atlanta Braves have claimed right-handed pitcher Ricky Vanasco off waivers from the Detroit Tigers and have optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett. The Tigers designated him for assignment when they signed former Braves reliever Tyler Kinley.
Vanasco, 27, made his MLB debut in 2024 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The former Texas Rangers draft pick in 2017 made two appearances each with the Dodgers and Tigers in 2024 and pitched in five games for the Tigers this season, which is the extent of his MLB career
to-date.
Although his big league appearances this season were less then inspiring, he’s shown a propensity for striking out matters this season at Triple-A with 59 strikeouts in 46.1 innings.
He is a no-risk addition for the organization that adds depth with the Stripers with roster set to expand, slightly, on September 1.
