What is happening? Did I wake up in an alternate universe? What on Earth are people talking about?
How is there a debate happening on social media and across various Chicago-based media platforms debating if the Chicago Bears should rest their players in week 18 and punt on the 2-seed?
This is the craziest debate I’ve seen in Chicago, and we have had some absolutely insane debates about the Bears and other Chicago sports teams.
Am I dreaming? Am I being Punk’d? What are people talking about?
The Chicago
Bears should not rest players in week 18.
And I am confident, the Chicago Bears will not rest players in week 18 (because Ben Johnson is not an idiot).
Yes, I said it. Idiot. If you think the Bears should punt on the two-seed, you’re an idiot. There is no sensible reason as to do it.
This isn’t saying, if Rome Odunze is still hurt, he should be rushed back. No, that’s not it. Resting players would be sitting Caleb Williams, Luther Burden, Joe Thuney, D’Andre Swift, and several other key players to give them the week off and rest up for the playoffs.
“But Bill, the Bears already have a home playoff game.”
Seriously? Are you that short-sided? Do you not understand the importance of having a home game in the Divisional Round? That is just the “I’m just happy to be here” mentality. That’s soft. Put yourself in a position to go to the Super Bowl.
Do you think Ben Johnson is going to take his foot off the gas? Does that sound at all like something Ben Johnson would do?
How does taking your foot off the gas, resting players, accepting a lower seed than you could have if you win your last game, and heading to the playoffs sound at all like something the 2025 Chicago Bears would do?
Because you are afraid of injuries? That’s loser mentality. You don’t go into a game worrying about what-ifs.
Forget that if you are the two seed, you are a Divisional Round upset away from having the NFC playoffs go through Chicago, forget that you’d have at least two home playoff games, forget all of that.
Did you even look at the potential Wild Card round matchups?
You would rather face the Rams or San Francisco (you don’t get to pick, it’s just how it plays out) than Green Bay? Are you insane?
“I would happily play Sam Darnold in the first round.”
That’s not an option!
The most likely 6 seed is going to be the LA Rams. Had you rather face the Rams than the Packers? And you’d be giving the Rams additional bulletin board material after resting players and telling the Rams, the Bears would rather play you than the Packers.
The only way you think resting players is a good idea is either A, you don’t know ball, B, you have a brain injury, or C, you are afraid of the Green Bay Packers.
Other than the NFC North winner, the Packers are the worst team in the NFC playoffs. Get over your trauma. Get over your soft mentality. Get over thinking like a loser. The new Chicago Bears are here; this isn’t the same old BS we have been used to.
Start thinking like a winner and be excited that on Sunday, the Chicago Bears will be a full-go against the Detroit Lions as they try to secure the two-seed.
