As the Portland Trail Blazers continue to search for their next head coach, Blazers fans are starting to speculate that the eventual hire will come from sources beyond the ones speculated on for the last month.
Prior to this week, three names dominated the headlines: Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, Boston Celtics assistant Tyler Lashbrook, and current Blazers acting head coach Tiago Splitter. In the last few days Splitter has been hired by the Chicago Bulls as their head coach while Nori is rumored
to have heavy interest from the Dallas Mavericks. That leaves Lashbrook and a more recent candidate, New York Knicks assistant Chris Jent, in the field.
When polled this week about the possibilities, Portland fans responded fairly overwhelmingly that they thought their next coach would come from outside the tight circle of prior candidates. 27% of respondents said Nori would be the hire, 11% Lashbrook. A strong 62% indicated that another candidate would take the lead and, eventually, the job.
I’m not sure anybody knows exactly what’s going on in Portland at this point, but according to the Blazers faithful, whatever it is will keep on going.
