On Tuesday, October 13, the New Orleans Saints, Ochsner Health and Entergy joined forces for a Day of Service at Second Harvest Food Bank to support local seniors.
More than 40 volunteers from the Saints, Ochsner Health and Entergy participated in the event, including members of the Saints Cheer Krewe, former Saints kicker Garrett Hartley, wide receiver Devery Henderson and running back Deuce McAllister.
According to Lindsey Hendrix, chief impact officer at Second Harvest Food Bank, volunteers packed
1,120 meal boxes to be distributed later that day to senior residents at HANO’s Guste High Rise in New Orleans.
In addition to providing meals, the event offered residents access to free health screenings, including blood pressure and glucose checks.
Residents also had the opportunity to receive energy efficiency assessments and information about Entergy’s Energy Smart program, which helps households identify ways to reduce energy consumption and lower utility costs.
The collaborative effort brought together community partners to address food insecurity, promote health and wellness, and provide valuable resources to seniors throughout the New Orleans area.
