Would he or wouldn’t he? That was a question most had just a few months ago pondering Daniel Jones’ health and availability for training camp and even the start of the season. Tearing his Achilles doesn’t appear to be more than a blip at this point as Jones is back in full swing. He has picked up right where he left off as the leader of the Indianapolis Colts, and he flexed his muscles over the Atlanta Falcons in joint practice on Wednesday.
The Falcons and Colts don’t officially meet in the preseason
until Saturday afternoon, but as has become tradition, two teams mix it up in joint practices before meeting on the gridiron. It’s a welcomed sight to get more work in from the starters and see how they stack up against another NFL unit. Sure, not everyone is out there, but it’s a heck of a lot more complete than what we saw against New England.
The last time these teams met, they produced a thriller in Berlin with the Colts taking the win in overtime. It would mark their last win in 2025. Perhaps facing the Falcons in the preseason will propel them in the opposite direction. If that is going to happen, it will be because of Jones. Although the offensive line wasn’t perfect, Jones was slinging it, going a perfect 15-15. That type of stat line sounds like something we experienced from the Colts last year to start. Jones won’t have to be that perfect, but reaching a new level will be imperative. Seeing him go 15-15, even in something as basic as joint practice is a great sign.
Daniel Jones, along with just a few others, holds the keys to what this season will look like at its completion. If we get the lost looking Jones from the late stages in New York, the second year of the contract won’t come to pass. If we get Danny Dimes, like we saw in practice, Jones will prove to be the absolute best choice for this franchise and save a lot of jobs. It’s just one practice, but add up enough dimes, and you’ll have a wealth of success.
