Hello Husky fans. With the first game of the season upon us, I decided to reach out to a massive 2027 target for UW. 3 star offensive lineman Reis Russell from Valor Christian HS, CO has been a target of UW’s since they offered in March of this year. Russell, who is rated as the 34th best interior offensive lineman in the 2027 class, already holds offers from Arkansas, LSU, Miami, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. Here is what Russell had to say about his recruitment and interest in UW.
UWDP: Uw offered you
a while ago. How did that offer come about and what were your thoughts after getting it?
The offer truly meant a lot to me. I got in contact with them and they invited to me to their junior day to go check it out and I had a great time. It was great meeting all the coaches and seeing what Seattle has to offer and when they offered me, I was fired up!!
UWDP: Coach Switzer is a now the O-Line coach this season for the UW. How has your relationship been with Coach Switzer and the staff now that he is running point recruiting you?
Building this relationship with Coach Switzer has been awesome. He’s not only a great guy but a great coach and I love to hear from him about his teachings. When I was at that junior day. We had a little O line meeting and he covered some topics and hearing him teach was amazing. Also Coach Brewster helping with the centers is huge. I have loved getting to know him and what he’s about.
UWDP: I believe you have visited UW a few times before. What are your impressions of the program and the staff?
The one junior day that I went to is what made me have so much interest in the university of Washington. I had such a great time meeting everybody and seeing what they have to offer. Coach Fisch and the whole staff is dedicated to not only helping you on, but also off the field. it truly feels like a family up there. This program is headed in the right direction for sure.
UWDP: UW has had some alumni from your high school on their roster. Have you been able to chat with Roger or the Huard’s about UW?
Roger was a big part of our program when he was here and all of us always hear stories about him. Hopefully I can meet him one day and hear about his time at Washington! Brock Huard is our tight ends Coach right now, so I work with him almost every day! He’s a great guy and gets us fired up at practice and always has great things to say about the huskies!
UWDP: Besides UW what other schools are you interested in?
Along side Washington I have been in Contact with LSU, Tennessee, Nebraska, Penn ST and Miami a lot.
UWDP: Is UW recruiting you as strictly an inside player or a swing player?
Right now, they see me playing inside and specifically at center. It’s always great to hear about what they want me to play and things I can work on to achieve these goals.
UWDP: When are you wanting to commit to a program and what are you looking for in a future school.
When I commit, I want a place that feels like I’m a home. A great connection with the coaching staff and having that bond in the OL room. I want to commit to a staff and not a logo. A staff and players with one big common goal is unstoppable and I hope I can find that!
Russell will be on campus tomorrow for the Huskies game against Colorado State and he is a recruit that Husky fans will want to keep an eye on over the coming months. That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
