It’s that time of year where wrestling fans love to predict and/or fantasy book the card at WrestleMania. Things are even more uncertain than usual in that regard with WWE rumored to have a lot of internal chaos while trying to finalize the lineup at WrestleMania 42, which takes place on April 18 & 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
One interesting detail we learned last week is that WrestleMania has an earlier start time this year, so that the first hour of each night can air on ESPN’s cable TV
networks. The first thought that crossed my mind when I saw this news is that the total number of matches will be probably be increased.
Last year’s WrestleMania event featured 14 matches across two nights, including four women’s bouts. According to a new report by WrestleVotes, WWE creative has discussed the possibility of booking at least six women’s matches at WrestleMania 42, which would be a record for this event. The current record is empty warehouse WrestleMania 36, which featured 4 women’s matches on the main card and an additional bout on the pre-show.
It’s easy to see how WWE can break the record this year given there are five different women’s titles on the main roster. WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill vs. Rhea Ripley and Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan have already been announced for WrestleMania 42.
It’s reasonable to think WWE will soon add Intercontinental Champion AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch, United States Champion Giulia vs. IYO SKY (vs. Asuka?), and a women’s tag title bout featuring teams like The Irresistible Forces, Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair, and the Bella Twins.
That’s five matches right there, with stars like Tiffany Stratton, Bayley, Jordynne Grace, Raquel Rodriguez, and Nattie as potential options for a sixth women’s match.
Are you excited about the idea of WWE booking six or more women’s bouts this year at WrestleMania 42? Let me know in the comments below if you think it will actually happen, Cagesiders.
