During what has already been a Hall of Fame-worthy career, Becky Lynch has wrestling against some of the most celebrated female stars of her generation.
However, when she was asked during a recent interview to name her all-time favorite opponents, she didn’t mention Sasha Banks. The Man also notably omitted Charlotte Flair, who she reportedly had a real-life falling out with after enjoying a close friendship.
Also missing from her short list was Ronda Rousey, who she pinned at WrestleMania 35 in the
first-ever women’s main event, also featuring Charlotte.
The topic came up when Lynch sat with sports reporter Nina Drama this past weekend during a Zuffa Boxing event in Dublin, Ireland.
When Nina asked her who her favorite opponent has been in her career, Lynch responded a brief hesitation: “Ooh, Bianca Belair.”
She then added, “Ooh, and Asuka. I love both of them. I love both of them.”
Becky has competed against Asuka on numerous occasions over the years. One of their most memorable encounters came at 2019’s Royal Rumble, which saw Asuka successfully defend her world championship against the Irish star.
However, Lynch would later enter the women’s Rumble event later that same night and emerge the winner. The victory secured her place in WrestleMania’s main event that year, where she faced Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. (Flair had defeated Asuka for her belt days before WrestleMania.) Lynch would become “Becky Two Belts” after handing Rousey her first pinfall loss in WWE by countering Ronda’s “Piper’s Pit” move into a crucifix.
Lynch’s history with Belair is marked with another notorious moment, though it’s one not fondly remembered by many fans.
Belair was a beloved world champion when she was set to face Carmella at 2021’s SummerSlam. When Carmella was announced as unable to complete due to injury, a returning Lynch —who had been away on maternity leave — came through the curtain. Lynch then pinned Bianca in 26 seconds and began a heel run. At the following WrestleMania, the two women had a proper match, and Belair regained her title.
