Ryan Garcia will fight Conor Benn on September 12 in Las Vegas, according to Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya.
“After long negotiations, Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn is a done deal,” De La Hoya said on social media. “Golden Boy Promotions and Sela made it happen. It’s on, baby. T-Mobile Arena, September 12, let’s go!”
Sela is one of the companies involved in a joint venture with TKO behind Zuffa Boxing. Maybe Oscar just didn’t want to say “Zuffa Boxing.” Maybe Zuffa won’t officially have a hand in it.
Who knows? Doesn’t matter. The fight’s going to happen.
Garcia (25-2, 20 KO) will be defending his WBC welterweight title against Benn (25-1, 14 KO). Benn, 29, hasn’t actually made the 147 lb limit since April 2022, when he beat Chris van Heerden, which came before 17 months out of boxing following a drug test scandal.
Benn dropped back down to a 150 lb contract weight to fight Regis Prograis in April of this year, following a pair of fights at 160 against Chris Eubank Jr.
Garcia, 27, beat Mario Barrios for the WBC title earlier this year. It was Garcia’s first world title win.
Who wins Garcia vs Benn in September?
