In a somewhat surprising move, Borussia Dortmund attacker Maximilian Beier has gotten the call from Julian Nagelsmann to join the German national team for the FIFA World Cup in North America this summer.
Beier had a productive season for Borussia Dortmund as he tallied 10 goals and 10 assists in 44 games across all competitions, while playing as a striker, second striker, left wing, and right wing. Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg broke the news:
Beier does not figure to be a starter on the team, but could be an attractive option off the bench. One thing that Nagelsmann values is versatility and being able to use Beier and players like Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, and Florian Wirtz in different positions should give Nagelsmann some quality options.
If Bayern Munich youngster Lennart Karl is, indeed, in the mix as has been rumored, he would be yet another option, who can play in multiple spots across the frontline.
