Buying the Giants offense. Maybe the Dallas Cowboys’ problematic defense isn’t any better than last year, but the New York Giants absolutely destroyed them from wire to wire Sunday night; it was the kind of performance that often predicts future success. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the offense was quarterback Jaxson
Dart’s play. Dart made some nice throws, took what the Cowboys gave him, and used his legs effectively. I’m not sure I was fully bought into the Dart experience within a Matt Nagy and Greg Roman offense, but the poise and accuracy he showed in prime time has me reconsidering that stance.
Outside of Dart, the other reason the model likes the Giants more today than it did before the season is that they looked better than expected in the trenches. The Giants’ offensive line completely dominated the Cowboys’ front, delivering 0.7 EPA per dropback and a 51 percent success rate on the ground. The model still has concerns about New York’s defense, but it’s buying the offense being better than expected and believes the Giants will be a factor in the NFC playoff race. In fact, Mauigoa didn’t permit a single pressure on his 36 pass blocks, according to Next Gen Stats. Mauigoa also recorded a 75% run block win rate in Sunday night’s 28-20 victory at MetLife Stadium, contributing to a Giants offense that imposed its will against the Dallas defense.
“Seeing him running to the ball, seeing him finish blocks, try to put guys in the dirt, that’s what you want for offensive linemen — especially at guard,” Giants fullback Patrick Ricard said Tuesday of Mauigoa. “To see that for the first game, it’s really encouraging. You want offensive linemen to set the tone for the whole offense. Me, seeing that, it makes me want to be doing that every play.”

22. New York Giants. Right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor was the Giants’ best pass-blocker in the win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, earning an 83.4 PFF pass-blocking grade and allowing a 0.0% pressure rate. Rookie right guard Francis Mauigoa also didn’t allow a pressure, though he did lose pass-blocking reps that didn’t result in pressure, finishing his debut with an 82.4% PFF pass-block win rate.

For a franchise that had won a total of 13 games the last three seasons combined, Sunday night was nothing short of an epiphany. With a single game, Harbaugh has swept away years of futility and instilled a mindset of expectation and self-respect that extends from the field to the stands and back.
This is unfamiliar territory for the Giants and their fans as of late; the team hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2022 season. But before Big Blue Nation starts making February hotel reservations in Los Angeles, keep in mind that Dallas — particularly the woeful, overmatched Cowboy defense — deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination for making the Giants look so good. If the Giants can in fact improve on their performance Sunday night — starting with a Monday night road game against the Rams — New York sports talk radio is going to be a lot of fun over the next few months.
