Last week we asked Buffalo Rumblings readers how they were feeling about the Buffalo Bills after the start of training camp this summer. As everyone who follows the NFL well knows, a generous helping of salt is necessary when weighing in about the sport at this point of the calendar.
That said, all anyone has to go on right now are training camp practices, press conferences/media appearances, and the myriad commentary by reporters. It’s natural then that they serve as the only concrete ways to meaningfully
consume the new-look Bills ahead of preseason football (which itself may not reveal much to observers).
So, how did Rumblers respond in regards to Buffalo’s new brass and the few nuggets of practice centered around a reformulated team looking to break an AFC Championship impasse? For the majority of our readers, hope springs eternal. Leading the way with 56% of the vote are those Rumblers who said they’re “cautiously optimistic” about the Bills at this point in the summer. There’s a lot to be excited about — especially on defense given the scheme switch. Plus, president of football operations/general manager Brandon Beane has given quarterback Josh Allen a new top wide receiver option in DJ Moore.
Don’t forget about running back James Cook III when considering the offense’s role this season. The reigning NFL rushing yards leader appears ready to run it back. That could have played into the percentage of Rumblers (30%) who said they’re “super excited” about Buffalo in August.
Much further down the polls were the 12% of voters who “haven’t seen enough yet,” and the 2% of folks who remain “cautiously pessimistic.” Perhaps that 2% of voters really doesn’t like the new alternate uniforms?
