Here are your Pens Points for this Friday morning…
Our Pittsburgh Penguins took the ice on Thursday night to play host to Mr. 900, Alex Ovechkin, and the Washington Capitals. Hit by a barrage of injuries to forwards, defense, and goalie, the Penguins weathered this storm early, earning a 3-0 lead by the second period. Then… the wheels fell off again and that lead was lost, only this time, there would be no repeat of that disastrous Maple Leafs performance. [Recap]
It’s a rivalry that has defined this generation of NHL hockey: Sidney Crosby and Alex
Ovechkin. Both longstanding captains of their respective franchises, two of the greatest players to ever lace up skates, played against each other for the 99th time on Thursday, and even though the gray hair has become more noticeable on both men, a sign that Father Time remains undefeated, the matchup remains as thrilling as ever. The big, 6-foot-5 Joona Koppanen has also been recalled from the AHL after forward Filip Hallander was deemed “day-to-day” with an undisclosed injury. Koppanen will look to fill holes on the penalty kill and in the faceoff circle. [Trib Live]
