Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal
attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
I usually start off these things with a little information about the last game the Spurs played, but the less said about last night, the better. Today is another day, and hopefully the lessons of yesterday will pay dividends tonight. The Spurs haven’t had a three game losing streak all season, and they don’t want to start tonight.
The Spurs injury list looks the same tonight as it did last night, with Vassell out, and Wembanyama questionable, which hopefully means that he can play … with a minutes restriction. The absence of Vassell hurts because only Julian Champagnie has been able to hit three point shots in the last month or so, and the Spurs offense is somewhat stagnant without the threat of long range shooting, as defenders can pack the paint and just wait for defensive rebounds as the Spurs continue the clangfest of the last month.
Both the Spurs and Lakers played last night, and with the Spurs loss and Lakers win, the winner of tonight’s game will be in second place in the Western Conference standings. Well, if the Lakers win tonight, they would be essentially tied, with both teams 13 games above .500, but the Lakers would have fewer losses because they’ve played two fewer games than the Spurs. If the Spurs win, they’ll be two games ahead of the Tinseltown terrors, and comfortably ahead for at least a little bit. Getting to the halfway point of the season in second place would be great for the Spurs, who are seven games ahead of their win pace last season, where they were 18-18 after 36 games. It got worse after that.
Remember, it’s always darkest in the middle of the night. But dawn is coming. A win tonight will make today seem a little brighter, so let’s GO SPURS, and BEAT LA!
Game Prediction:
Luka Doncic will congratulate the referee on making a correct call, and this will result in an immediate technical foul for sarcasm.
