The Yankees have finally hit their stride this month, following up a series win over the Twins with a sweep of the Cardinals over the weekend. The pitching staff gave serviceable to excellent results with one exception, as Max Fried struggled again continuing his second-half slump. However, the offense more than supported him and the rest of the staff, erupting for 24 runs in the sweep with Ben Rice’s 7-RBI night on Saturday leading the pack.
Their resurgence comes at a critical time, as they’ve got
a lighter schedule than most of their competitors going forward. If the team can do their part, they could not only hold onto a Wild Card spot that they looked days away from dropping but climb back up the standings for a decent seeding. Will their efforts to rebound survive a major bout with the Red Sox coming up this week? Can the gap in the division get closed by the end of the month? Will Fried turn things around, or have his blister issues become too much of an issue?
