A week of shootouts and games coming down to the final minutes made for one of the more exciting weeks of the season. There were lots of points, some elite passing and receiving performances, and a handful of unexpected outcomes. With that being said, let’s take a look at the top performances from week seven.
Offensive Player of the Week
Danny Scudero (San Jose State)
It may have come in a loss, but Scudero continued his impressive season in San Jose State’s 35-28 loss over Wyoming. Scudero finished the game with 10 catches for
180 yards and an eye-popping four touchdowns. Scudero proved to be the only big playmaker in the Spartans’ loss and it proved to be costly when the Cowboys finally started slowing him down in the second half.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jace Bellah (Colorado State)
The junior defensive back out of Pueblo, Colorado had a career night in Colorado State’s upset victory over Fresno State. Bellah had two interceptions that he returned for a total of 53 yards and added six tackles in a win that could help Colorado State turn things around.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Oscar Doyle (Boise State)
An unexpected hero. The Boise State punter capitalized on a mishandled snap by throwing a touchdown that gave Boise State a 34-17 lead. Doyle also averaged 43 yards on his two punts. It was a solid week for the Weber State transfer out of Australia.
Newcomer of the Week
Anthony Colandrea (UNLV)
The junior transfer quarterback out of Virginia continued his magical season in an exciting game that saw UNLV escape with a 51-48 victory over Air Force. Colandrea was sharp, completing 20 of 32 passes for 361 yards and a touchdown. Colandrea’s biggest play of the game came on a late scramble that he ran into the endzone giving UNLV the lead and the eventual win to help the Rebels improve to 6-0 on the season.
Freshman of the Week
Micah Alejado (Hawaii)
Things never go as expected on the islands. That was definitely the case last Saturday when Micah Alejado led the Rainbow Warriors to a convincing victory over Utah State. Alejado completed 34 of 54 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Rainbow Warriors to a 44-26 win over Utah State.
