Greetings, BBN!
Finally, a full week of conference action! Five league games putting five wins and five losses into the standings shook things up massively, especially in Oxford, Mississippi, and Athens,
Georgia. The Ole Miss Rebels and the Alabama Crimson Tide shot ahead of the crowd to the driver and passenger seats of the standings, taking out #4 LSU and #5 Georgia to be unbeaten in league play and have head-to-head advantages over their primary competition for first place.
Let’s take a look at the standings heading into Week 6:

Notes:
- Ole Miss is in an excellent position entering October. They only have to play five more league games, and Alabama is not one of them. Georgia and Oklahoma are, though. That two-game stretch might decide the league.
- Texas is the only team to have not played a league game yet, playing four non-con games and then taking a bye. Procrastination is what I call it.
- Kentucky and Auburn are stuck at the bottom with 0-2 records following losses to South Carolina and Texas A&M. If the Wildcats keep playing like they did Saturday, they might put up an 0-8 skunk.
- Arkansas got blown out at home and fired their coach but it didn’t impact their position in the standings. Notre Dame is not in the SEC or in any conference at all.
- Biggest game next week is Alabama vs Vanderbilt. Hard to believe Vanderbilt can jump to the top of the SEC standings, but if they beat the Crimson Tide they’ll have most of the league lagging behind their 2-0 record.
- Mississippi State’s still looking to snap their 13-game SEC losing streak following their overtime loss to Tennessee on Saturday. Up next for them is a trip to Kyle Field to take on the Texas A&M Aggies in prime time.
