The Dallas Cowboys haven’t had any luck when it comes to injuries in 2026, and multiple guys have been added to the injured reserve list. To counter that, Dallas has added several players in the secondary to their practice squad.
Now it looks like they are going even further in adding to their injured secondary. Reports are that a trade for Joey Porter Jr. is happening.

The Cowboys have been ravaged by injuries in the first three weeks of the season. As a result, their approach defensively has been adjusted for the Texans.
FRISCO — The Cowboys are dealing with injuries at all three levels of their defense. They’ve had 29 different players take snaps on defense this season. There’s the possibility for even more Sunday against the Houston Texans as the injuries continue to pile up.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Schottenheimer declined to say if he’s the starting middle linebacker yet.
“We’re going to play that by ear,” Schottenheimer said. “Jaishawn is earning those opportunities right now with how he’s playing. [. . .] We’ll discuss that. We’ve got to be flexible because of the fact that multiple guys have to wear [the green dot].”

Cowboys 2027 free agents stock report: Otito Ogbonnia emerging on run defense – Jess Haynie, The Landry Hat
The Cowboys have quite a few free agents next season. Here’s a look at where they stand as of now.
Here on a one-year deal to rotate with Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark, Ogbonnia is starting to rival these big-name defensive linemen on the field. He led all Cowboys with six stops against the Ravens, which was crucial against Derrick Henry and their power run game. Even last week against Washington, Ogbonnia was praised as the most impactful interior defender.
Dallas is obviously committed to Williams for the next several years, but things aren’t so certain with Clark. In 2027, Clark is scheduled to count $23.7 million against the cap, with only $14.8 million in dead money left on the deal.

Dallas has made plenty of roster moves due to a recent wave of injuries.
The Dallas Cowboys have officially placed two defenders on injured reserve as they begin their practice week.
Ahead of practice, the Cowboys announced they are placing both safety Jalen Thompson and defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard on injured reserve, which means they will miss at least the next four games.
We already knew Thompson was slated for injured reserve after co-owner Stephen Jones said so, but Bullard’s placement is at least somewhat of a surprise, as it was initially believed he would only miss a few weeks.
