Bayern Munich has an interesting decision to make at left-back heading into Saturday’s Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Borussia Dortmund.
So, who should get the start: Alphonso Davies or Nathaniel Brown?
Davies brings experience, athleticism and a proven ability to perform on the biggest stages. When fully fit, his pace can be a major weapon for Bayern Munich, both when overlapping in attack and when recovering defensively. His experience in high-pressure matches could also be particularly valuable
against Borussia Dortmund.
But Nathaniel Brown has given Bayern Munich another intriguing option. The young left-back has impressed with his energy, attacking intent and willingness to get forward. A strong preseason has put him in contention for an opportunity in a meaningful match, and starting against Borussia Dortmund would be a significant chance to show what he can do.
For Vincent Kompany, the decision could come down to experience versus momentum. Does Bayern Munich need Davies’ experience and defensive security, or should Brown be rewarded with the opportunity to start after impressing during preseason?
A strong argument could be made that Brown has been better during this preseason, but that Davies — with his strong overall track record at the club — deserves the first chance to stake his claim to the position.
With the first trophy of the season on the line, it is an important decision.
