Well the good news is that the real life Ole Miss Rebels are 2-0 despite the simulation Rebels being 0-2. The bad news is that we do need the Rebs to consistently do the opposite of the simulation (only in losses). I don’t know about you but I am at least glad this game is at home.
Perhaps the home field advantage was a factor in this week’s simulation by EA Sports College Football 26 as the Rebels fared quite well for the second year in a row against the Razorbacks.
Game Flow
Similar to the first two games
of the season, the Rebel offense came out slow. While there was not the routine two interceptions thrown by Austin Simmons, Ole Miss only managed a field goal during the first quarter of play. However, the Rebel defense had no problems with the Razorback offense, keeping them off the scoreboard through the first 15 minutes of play.
In the second quarter, Simmons settled in and the Rebs started to heat up. The sophomore QB connected on two touchdown passes in the quarter. Cayden Lee and Trey Wallace each found the endzone, with Wallace catching the longest pass of the day of 38 yards.
The defense stood tall again in the second quarter, pitching another shutout, leading to a 17-0 Ole Miss lead at the half. But we all know, that’s not comfortable enough against those pesky hogs.
Arkansas drove down the field to start the second half, scoring a touchdown off of a Taylen Green pass to Raylen Sharpe. Ole Miss responded with two straight touchdowns, a run by Simmons and a pass to Stribling, pushing the score to 31-7 heading into the final frame.
Taylen Green tried to make it interesting leading the Hogs on two straight touchdown drives, but failed to make a two-point conversion before the Rebs iced the game with a touchdown run by Damien Taylor.
Ole Miss wins a big conference game 38-20 on their home field and look to prepare for Tulane next week!
The Stats
Austin Simmons was electric in this one, completing 78% of his passes for 342 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
De’Zhaun Stribling and Cayden Lee both went over the century mark receiving and combined for 19 catches. Wallace III had five catches for an average of 18.5 yards per catch (to be expected now).
Ole Miss ran for 178 yards between Taylor, Diggs and Simmons. (Lacy is buried on the depth chart, but the next roster update should fix this).
Suntarine Perkins was an absolute terror in this one, sacking Green three times while Da’Shawn Womack added the only other sack.
Finally, the Rebels won every single statistical category except for punt return yards, which who cares right?!
PLEASE allow this to be indicative of what we will watch Saturday night in the Vaught!
