The Braves have made an interesting move after making their 2-man September callup this afternoon.
The Braves have claimed Ha-Seong Kim from the Rays today. Kim has an option for 2026, but that appears to be a player-only option, not
a team option or two-way option. So if Kim wishes, he can collect $16 million from Atlanta. Kim has posted a .214/.290/.321 line with a 72 wRC+ in 93 injury-plagued plate appearances. The lower back inflammation that he is suffering is in addition to hamstring and calf issues in his right leg. But when (and if) healthy, he is a solid option 2-4 WAR player.
This is a bit of a wow move on a day that no one really expected it. A lot of observers has Kim going to the Braves this offseason. The Braves elected to go with the tandem of Orlando Arcia (now with the Rockies) and Nick Allen. Allen was leading the world in outs above average at shortstop, but has hit south of 30 wRC+ for the last two months.
Put down the beer and the look away from the grill for a moment. Actual baseball moves are going down. We will have more news as it happens.
