LOS ANGELES — Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas was voted by his teammates and coaches as the 2025 Roy Campanella Award, given annually to the Dodgers player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership of the Hall of Fame catcher.
Rojas also won the award in 2024, making him just the fourth player in the 20-year history of the Campanella Award to be honored multiple times, along with Clayton Kershaw (2013-14), Chase Utley (2016, 2018), and Justin Turner (2017, 2019-20).
The 36-year-old Rojas in his
third year back with the Dodgers has been in more of a reserve role this season, filling in occasionally at third base and shortstop, and also making more starts at second base (44) than in his first 11 major league seasons combined (42).
Rojas on the season is hitting .266/.325/.402 with a 104 wRC+, including a solo home run Friday night for the Dodgers’ first run of the game, and later a double.
Rojas will be presented his award by members of the Campanella family on the field before Saturday’s game against the Giants.
The Dodgers and Giants have played each other in the National League since 1890, and after Friday night’s win over the Giants their all-time series is tied at 1,287-1,287. How rare is that? Let’s ask Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
After two runs allowed in 4 1/3 innings on Friday, Clayton Kershaw ends his career with a 2.10 ERA in 411 2/3 innings vs. the Giants, the lowest ERA by any pitcher with at least 150 innings against them in the live-ball era.
Jay Jaffe at FanGraphs thoroughly chronicled Kershaw’s Hall of Fame career at FanGraphs.
Friday was Kershaw’s 61st career start against the Giants. Grant Brisbee at The Athletic compiled a list of the most hilarious San Francisco home runs off Kershaw, but mostly marveled at mostly 18 years of dominance against a rival. From Brisbee:
He threw more innings against Giants than anyone else threw against any other team. He faced more Giants batters and struck out more of them than anyone else did against any other team. He was always, always, always pitching against the Giants. Take it from me. No, please, take it from me. My brain is filled with Kershaw outings against the Giants, and I need them out of there.
