Frenkie de Jong has made history this week by becoming the Dutchman with the most appearances for Barcelona after beating the record previously held by Phillip Cocu.
The midfielder has now made 293 appearances for Barcelona, winning two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey crowns. However, De Jong is adamant he wants more trophies and is determined to land the European Cup for Barca.
“The number of games isn’t the most important thing. I would have
preferred to win the Champions League three times, but I think it also means something if you’re at a club for a long period,” he told Ziggo Sport.
“When I arrived here, the president told me, ‘If everything goes well, you’ll play here for the next twelve years,'” said De Jong , who is now in his seventh season.
“Hopefully that will happen and I can win many more trophies. I’m not satisfied yet. I want to achieve much more and I really want to win the Champions League.”
Barcelona have reached the semi-finals and the quarter-finals under Hansi Flick, with the German coach also admitting this week that winning the competition is his dream.
